Can I walk the Camino for another person, such as a loved one? In the Santiago pilgrim office, it is possible to ask at the desk for a Vicarie Pro (a Latin phrase meaning “replacement for”) Compostela. This becomes a Compostela of the person who walked, transferred or dedicated to someone else who cannot walk themselves. You might choose to do this if, for instance, you walked your Camino in memory of a deceased relative, or for a person who is too ill or infirm to walk. It doesn’t change how you complete the registration form, as the Compostela is printed as normal in the name of the one who walked and has their stamped credential. Simply ask at the desk for a Vicarie Pro Compostela and give the other person's name. The person issuing the Compostela will write "Vicarie Pro" and the other person's name in pen by hand near the bottom. The meaning from the cathedral's point of view is that the blessings will benefit the named person instead of the one who walked. The person walking only obtains this one Compostela, not two.
