Miam Miam Dodo: GR65 Via Podiensis Section 1: Le Puy en Velay - Cahors

Lauriane and Jacques Clouteau. Les Editions de Vieux Crayon, 2026.

This is a long route, covering 760 Km. The Way of Le Puy is the oldest and easily the most popular of the four traditional pilgrims routes in France. Also referred to as the GR65, it begins at Le Puy-en-Velay to bring you to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, the last step in France before starting the Camino Frances in Spain on route to Santiago de Compostela. The first non Hispanic pilgrim, The Puy's Bishop, Godescalc, walked this route in the year 951 and today 40 to 50,000 Pilgrims and Hikers are estimated to start the Way from Le Puy-en-Velay annually.

This guide for Section 1 of the Via Podiensis covers the route from Le-Puy-en-Velay to Cahors and is an essential tool, entirely updated every year to describe where to eat, sleep and eat and at what price - for a 4km band along the length of the route. The maps are detailed and easy to read - being at a scale of 1cm to 375m.
