Regional Groups Norfolk / Suffolk / Essex Group Leaders: Carol & Derek Greening and Jim Sollars This is a small friendly group with members from all corners of the three counties. We meet on zoom every 2 months to provide advice to those planning a Camino, exchange our Camino experiences and plan events. Several of our walks in 2022 have been along stages of the London to Walsingham pilgrimage route led by Andy Bull, author of the recently published guide book. We have also enjoyed walks around historic towns and cities in the three counties and along the Norfolk coast. We work closely with neighbouring groups, particularly the Cambridgeshire group. If you are interested in the Camino and would like to meet other local enthusiasts, please email Derek and Carol Recent events On Saturday 9th May seven of us walked from Newport to Saffron Walden via Wendens Ambo. We were blessed with a beautiful sunny day and an informative guide, Andy Bull who has written several books on pilgrimage. The route is a deviation on the route described in his book on the London to Walsingham Camino. At the start of the walk we stopped to admire St Mary the Virgin Church with its angel roof and ancient wooden chest. We walked past beautiful thatched cottages with decorated pastel coloured walls, characteristic of this area of Essex. At Wendens Ambo we called into St Mary the Virgin Church and saw the beautiful stained glass window of the Angel Gabriel and Mary. Passing a village event, we progressed to St Mary’s Church in Saffron Walden where we admired the wooden carvings of croci and the organ. The walk was concluded with a pub lunch in the Cross Keys, in an elizabethan building in Saffron Walden. April Meet up and Walk in Norfolk Ludham to Horning: We enjoyed a meet up and walk on Saturday 26th April from Ludham (near Great Yarmouth) to Horning ending with a pub lunch. The walk took in St Benets Abbey ruins and Horning church, linked in part via an old pilgrim causeway. Andy Bull kindly agreed to lead the walk which is featured in his book on Norfolk Pilgrim Routes. Manage Cookie Preferences
